According to the scriptures and Vedas, the
Ashtami of Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is celebrated as Gopashtami. From this
day Lord Vasudev started the service of Gopalan.
After Deepawali, 'Gopashtami' festival is
celebrated by all Hindus. Gopashtami is a major festival of Indian culture in
Braj. Lord Shri Krishna is addressed by the name 'Govind or Gopal' because of
protecting the beloved cow and doing cow grazing. Lord had taken the Govardhan
mountain to protect the Gau-Gope-Gopis from Kartik Shukla Paksha, Pratipada to
Saptami. From this time the festival of Goposhtami started being celebrated on
Ashtami.
Devadhidev Indra was worshiped in the Braj
region since ancient times. People believed that Indra gives life to all human
beings, creatures, creatures and also rains to satisfy them. Indra became very
proud of the fact that people were afraid of him too much.
Shri Krishna Bhagwan told Nanda Baba that
forests and mountains are our home. His livestock grazes under the umbrella of
Giri Raj Govardhan, from him everyone gets vegetation and shade. Govardhan
Maharaj is the God of all, our Kuldevta and protector, so everyone should
worship Giriraj Govardhan.
By the order of Nand Baba, everyone
worshiped Giriraj Govardhan with the things that had been prepared for the
worship of Indra Dev. This wonderful Leela of the Lord was made on sight
because on one hand he was with cowherd hair and on the other hand he was
enjoying the enjoyment in the form of Giriraj.
Everyone ate the Prasad of Lord Giriraj
with great joy and distributed what was left among all. When Indra came to know
about this, he got very angry. He rained so much on Gokul that the water was all
over. Lord Shri Krishna then lifted Giriraj mountain on his finger and
protected all the Gokul residents from rain. When Indra came to know about the
reality, he apologized to the Lord. Since then the festival of Gopashtami is
being celebrated on Kartik Shukla Ashtami.
This festival coming in the month of
Kartik is very fruitful. On the auspicious occasion of Gopashtami, cow worship
is organized in the cowshed for the promotion of cows. In the Gaumata Puja
program, all the people present and offer prayers along with the family. For
this, they are worshiped with items like lamp, jaggery, banana, laddu, flower
garland, Gangajal etc. Women worship Shri Krishna before the cows and apply
tilak to the cows. Cows are fed green fodder, jaggery, etc. and wished for
happiness and prosperity. Later Prasad is distributed to everyone. By
worshiping the mother cow to all the people, understanding its scientific and
spiritual importance, we take a pledge to protect the cow and promote the cow.
Let us together with Shri KrishnayanGaushala celebrate the festival of Gopashmi by doing our best in cow service.
