Kamadhenu : The Divine Cow which Fulfills All Wishes

Cow is considered as mother in Hinduism. The tradition of worshiping the cow has been going on for centuries. There is also a mention of a cow in the vedas which is worshiped like a goddess. Its name is Kamadhenu. It is said that worshiping Kamdhenu fulfills all the desires of the mind. In Vedic discription, Kamadhenu is a goddess manifesting as a divine cow who is considered to be the mother of all cows.

Kamadhenu, similarly is a wish fulfilling cow. It is also sometimes referred to as mother of all cows.

Kamdhenu is a completely white (white) cow. It is believed to have originated from the churning of the ocean. Many gems emerged from the churning of the ocean between the gods and the demons, among them Kamadhenu is also a gem. It is believed that during the churning of the ocean, there was a loud sound and when the gods and the demons looked up, Kamdhenu was visible. The sages kept Kamadhenu with them. Kamdhenu is a goddess in Hindu religion whose form is that of a cow, in the Puranas also the cow is described as a goddess, Kamdhenu means (Kama = desire, Dhenu = cow) i.e. such a cow that fulfills all desires, that is Kamdhenu.

From the king-maharaja to the sage-muni, they were overwhelmed by the miracles of Kamadhenu. It is said that Kamdhenu has such powers, by which every wish can be fulfilled. The cow is a mother to mankind whom we should love, respect and protect. Her milk sustains the life of many species, including humans. Her dung provides fuel and bricks for millions of rural families across the Asian countries. Her urine is medicine for the sick. When she dies her skin provides us warmth and protection through clothing.

It is said that Kamadhenu lives in heaven. At present it is not possible to see Kamdhenu. That is why people worship every cow present on the earth as a form of Kamdhenu. Kamdhenu's mind is pure. Different names of Kamadhenu are mentioned in many texts, including Surabhi, Nanda, Sunanda, Suman, Nandini, Sushila.

It is written in Hinduism that the cow is the best creature in the world. The importance of cow is not only known from religious, spiritual but scientific point of view. According to Vastu Shastra, it is considered auspicious to place an idol of Kamdhenu cow at home. By installing the idol of Kamdhenu cow, there is happiness and prosperity in the house.

It is believed that keeping it removes the Vastu defects of the house and good luck and love remains in the family.
