Cow Shelter - A Safe Home to Thousands of Desi Cows

In our Sanatan Dharma and Vedas, the cow has been described as the mother of the world and revered. 33 crore Gods and Goddesses reside in Mother Cow and we also get the boon of milk and Panchgavya throughout our life from Desi Cow. That is why our traditions and customs inspire us to take care of the life-giving mother cow. But unfortunately the cow is not being treated properly.

Nowadays people are doing injustice to this sensitive and divine creature. Most of the cows are left on the streets when they stop giving milk. From there they trapped into the hands of butchers and many of them become victims of road accidents and some die there. In such a situation, there is a need for a Cow Shelter which can become a Safe Home to Thousands of Desi Cows and Gauvansh.

Yes, Cow Shelter is a shelter where a positive environment is provided to a cow along with food, shelter and medicine. People earn a lot from cow rearing, but to earn profit from cow rearing, special care has to be taken of many things, like good care of the cows, proper nutrition of the cows and making better cow shelter i.e. Gaushala for them.

What is Cow Shelter?

The house used for rearing cows is called Gaushala. In Hindu religion, cow is considered a mother and serving and protecting it in every way is considered a virtuous act. India's first cow shelter was established by Raja Rao Yudhishtar Singh Yadav in Rewari. Now there are many cow shelters in India. When people are not able to provide good quality food to cows and leave them on the streets to fend for themselves. As a result, they eat tons of plastic and garbage to feed themselves. Not only do they suffer from diseases but some of them also have to undergo surgery. All these works are possible only in the cow shelter.

Characteristics of Good Cow Shelter

      Structure and arrangements

Before constructing a cow shed or cow farm, keep in mind that the land should be flat and at a slight elevation, so that there is no problem of water logging during rains and with the help of drains, rain water and cow excreta also go out of the cow shed. For the convenience of the cows, slightly larger doors, windows and sheds should also be installed in the cow shed, so that the animals can be protected from the problems of rain, sun, heat and frost in winter. Also make arrangements for electricity and water in the cowshed. Apart from this, arrange for a water source to feed and bathe the animals with clean water in the morning and evening.

Understanding the Health Importance of Desi Cows

To keep the desi cow stress free, the cowshed should also have the facility of fan during day and lighting at night. For better health of cows and good quantity of milk production, fodder, grains and balanced animal feed have to be provided on time. In the cow shed or cow farm, keep a cow servant to take care of the cows, so that timely feeding, bathing, walking, milk production and medical check-up of the cows can be done. Keep consulting veterinarians and get the cows medically examined (Cow Health Care). Before rain, summer and winter, when the weather changes, give anti-disease vaccination to the cows, so that health problems do not arise. Along with green fodder, feed balanced animal fodder to the cows, because milk production depends on it. Cows should also be kept stress free, hence do not misbehave in front of the animals, rather rear them with care and affection.

Shree Krishnayan Gaushala

Shree Krishnayan Gaushala is doing remarkable work in this area. More than 20,000 cows are being served and treated here. Hundreds of cow servants, volunteers and doctors present at the Gaushala work round the clock to provide a safe home to thousands of cows. Many of the cows are old, some seriously injured and many others recovering from near-fatal accidents. All these are being taken care of here. Obviously this work requires financial support. With the decreasing donations to the Gaushala, the Gaushala is working very hard to provide a comfortable life to all its cows.

Shree Krishnayan Desi Gauraksha Evam Gaulok Dham Sewa Samiti’ is one of the largest Gaurakshashala of Desi cows in India. In gaushala] they protect, feed & shelter ailing, starving, destitute and stray Desi Cows & Bulls, the majority of which are abandoned by their owners or saved from butchers. Most of these Gauvansh are milk barren. These cows are brought to our Gaushala from tough conditions. All these cows are fed, sheltered, and looked after by hundreds of Gausewaks who work round the clock. It is run and managed by saints.here, they do not exploit these cows for milk but distribute it free to saints / tapaswis / Gausewaks / Ashrams.

It started with just 11 cows in the year 2010 in Haridwar, and presently more than 20,000 cows and bulls are fed and sheltered in various locations altogether. This number is ever-increasing as stray Desi cows and bulls, mostly deserted by their owners, are brought to our Gaurakshashala every day. This gaushala is registered with the Animal Welfare Board of India (Chennai) and with the animal welfare boards in various states
